Staying Close By helps you find places to stay, eat and visit near the address you're going to. Here is who supplies what you see on the site.

How booking works

Staying Close By doesn't take bookings or payments. When you pick a stay, a new tab opens on the company that lists it. You book and pay there, and that company's prices and cancellation rules apply.

HotelPlanner

Our list of places to stay

The stays in our list come from HotelPlanner, where we're an affiliate.

HotelPlanner is a Florida-based travel company that has booked hotels since the early 2000s. It reported more than $1 billion in gross revenues in 2024 and has made the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies four times. It describes itself as one of the world's largest providers of online group hotel bookings. It handles the booking when you choose a stay.

Booking.com

Stays on our map, through Stay22

Booking.com listings appear on our map through our partner Stay22.

Booking.com's parent company, Booking Holdings, reported $186.1 billion in gross bookings and $26.9 billion in revenue for 2025. Its brands booked 1.235 billion room nights. Booking.com was established in 1996.

Vrbo

Vacation rentals on our map, through Stay22

Vrbo rentals appear on our map through Stay22.

Vrbo is part of Expedia Group, whose brands also include Expedia and Hotels.com. Expedia Group reported $119.6 billion in gross bookings and $14.7 billion in revenue for 2025. Vrbo says it has paired homeowners with families and friends looking for places to stay since 1995. HomeAway bought VRBO in 2006, and Expedia Group bought HomeAway in 2015.

Viator

Tours and activities

Tours and activities come from Viator, where we're an affiliate.

Viator was founded in 1995 and has been part of Tripadvisor since 2014. It lists more than 300,000 tours and experiences.

Stay22

The map below our results

Our Booking.com and Vrbo map is powered by Stay22, a Montreal travel technology company founded in 2016.

Stay22 works with Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Vrbo, KAYAK, Agoda, and Trip.com. Stay22 says more than 5,000 creators use its tools and that it processes over US$1 billion in transactions a year. In February 2026 it received a $122 million growth investment from Summit Partners.

We're on the waitlist for Stay22's Direct Travel API, which Stay22's support team told us fits our address-based map.

Google Maps

Maps, nearby places and directions

Maps, nearby places and directions come from Google Maps.

Alphabet reported in October 2024 that Google Maps passed 2 billion monthly users. Google says it provides information for more than 200 million places.

Where these facts come from

Every figure is reported by the company named. "Gross bookings" means the total amount travelers spent, not what the company earned. HotelPlanner's figure is its own "gross revenues" number as it reported it.
